Weekly Track Clinics
The Northbrook Cycle Committee conducts Rider Development clinics every Monday and Tuesday. There is no difference between the clinics days. Both days cover similar material. We offer two days to meet the needs of our riders.
Rider Development Clinics: 2008 schedule - April 29 to August 26 - Flyer
Warm up/registration begins at 6:30 p.m. (you must have registered and sign a rider waiver prior to your warm up), program starts at 7:00 pm. and ends at 9:30 p.m.
A variety of non-competitive programs will be held, including pace line riding, acceleration training, sprinting drills, motor pacing, and simulated races. Instruction will be offered in skills such as time trial starts (useful on the road as well as the Velodrome), match sprint tactics, velodrome etiquette, track lingo, Madison exchanges, team time trials, and sprint finishes.
Most important, there will also be time set aside for instruction for those learning for the first time how to ride a fixed gear track bike and use the Velodrome banking, with a goal of preparing new riders to enter the Thursday and Friday night races with confidence. Participation can qualify riders for a USAC category upgrade required to race on Thursday Nights.
Fee: $7 per person per day includes use of the facility and USAC insurance.
License Requirement: all participants are required to purchase a license to participate in the clinics.
Licenses available to purchase on site, however, we rather you visit USA Cycling racing license (one day non-competitive event licenses available for $5, annual domestic rider primary licenses for $60, annual junior primary license $30) and purchase the required licenses.
USCF Waiver Release: All participants are required to sign a waiver release form (parent/guardian if under 18). Please be advised that “any rider under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by his/her parent or guardian. The parent or guardian must either sign the waiver in the presence of the registration official (who will request to see the drivers license or other photo ID of the parent or guardian), or the signature of the parent or guardian must be notarized on the waiver form.”
You may download the waiver form at USA Cycling release form.
Helmets are a requirement at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome.
If you don’t have a track bike, loaner track bikes are available at no charge from Turin or Alberto's. You may contact Turin Bicycle at 847.864.7660 and Alberto’s (847) 446-2042.
Also, you may rent a loaner bike from Northbrook Bicycle Club via the Park District at $5.00 per clinic days. Please inquiry in the Chalet when you arrive.
